Tiger Tuesdays Several downtown Chestnut Street District merchants began a new program this fall called Tiger Tuesdays as a way to incorporate more Fort Hays State University tiger spirit in Downtown Hays. The concept initiated with a FHSU Leadership Studies team as they were investigating ways to build a closer relationship between the FHSU campus and the Chestnut Street District. To start incorporating more tiger spirit in downtown Hays, the FHSU Admissions staff and Center for Student Involvement is in the process of painting black tiger paw prints on the downtown sidewalks, as well as decorating vacant store fronts in downtown with FHSU apparel and merchandise. The Downtown Development Corporation is also working with FHSU to hang tiger flags on the new light poles along 8th Street between Oak Street and Fort Street, which serves as a major corridor to FHSU. Several downtown merchants are taking part by having their staff wear FHSU apparel or buttons on Tuesdays, as well as offering a variety of specials to any FHSU student, staff or faculty member who shows their school ID. The participating businesses include: Around the World, Bildschon Haus, Bildschon Baby, Café Semolino, Coffee Rules, C.S. Post & Co., Dwayne’s Designs, Ellis County Historical Society, Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co., Pottery Works, Scrapbook Frenzy and Simply Charmed. Visit the Chestnut Street District this fall as the tiger spirit comes alive in downtown. Stop by participating businesses for more details!
