8 Wonders of Ellis County

On Wednesday, May 14, 2008, the Chestnut Street District was presented with an award on behalf of the City of Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau and Hays Daily News for being chosen as one of the 8 Wonders of Ellis County. The program was started as a way to highlight Ellis County’s key attractions to community citizens and visitors. Voting was conducted by ballots printed in The Hays Daily News and on HDNews.net. Other attractions being honored were Fort Hays State University, Historic Fort Hays, Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pfeifer, Cathedral of the Plains (St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria), Sternberg Museum of Natural History, Frontier Park and Ellis County Historical Society. Accepting the award on behalf of the Chestnut Street District was Dwayne Spady, Downtown Hays Development Corporation Board Member and downtown business owner.
