The Furniture Look Named 2008 Existing Business of the Year

Karen Dreiling, owner of The Furniture Look at 1000 Main Street, was awarded the Kansas Small Business Development Center (SBDC) 2008 Existing Business of the Year Award, on March 10, 2009 in Topeka. 

Fort Hays State University was the host university for the event and President Edward Hammond was on hand to deliver the award. Dreiling attributes her success to the SBDC and Downtown Hays location. “The SBDC really helped me with advice and a business plan before I opened my doors in 1991. Without their help, starting my business would have been difficult,” stated Dreiling. The SBDC helps local entrepreneurs turn an idea into a business opportunity. They work hand in hand with the entrepreneur in all aspects of the business plan including finance and marketing so the entrepreneur can realize a dream and open the doors to the public. In addition, Dreiling stated “The downtown area provided an affordable location for a start up business. Opening here allowed me to spread my dollars in a more directional manner.” The Furniture Look has been successful for over 17 years in the Downtown Hays District.   

The Furniture Look provides a full-service feel to buying furniture. “We try to give the customer a better deal with a personal touch,” stated Dreiling. Born and raised in Hays, Dreiling attributes her success to her loyal clients. She is also quick to give credit to her hard working employees. “My staff always provides service with every sale. This is how we are able to create a warm environment for the customer. If we can improve the most precious space in the home, then we feel our job is complete,” said Dreiling.
