12th Annual Wild West Festival Parade As entries are being organized and floats are being assembled, people are preparing for this year’s “Star Spangled Celebration” parade down Main Street. The 12th Annual Wild West Festival Parade will take place Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Historic Downtown Hays Chestnut Street District. As the date quickly approaches, entry forms for the parade continue to pour in. As the entries make their way down Main Street, judges will be ready to decipher who the top three entries will be for this year’s Wild West Festival Parade. The 1st place entry will receive a $200.00 cash award, the 2nd place will receive a $150.00 cash award and the 3rd place will receive a $100.00 cash award. In addition to the parade, downtown merchants will be joining in the excitement as well. Several businesses and organizations in downtown and throughout the community will be offering special activities and promotions throughout the Wild West Festival weekend, July 3 through July 6. Right after the Wild West Festival Parade, be sure to stop by Home Town Brand Center, located at 219 West 10th Street, where they will be celebrating with free hot dogs, chips and a drink. On top of the meal, Home Town Brand Center will also have a storewide sale and fun games and activities for the children including giving away a Nintendo Wii and a dunk tank with all proceeds going to the local Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. The Ellis County Historical Society Museum, located at 100 West 7th Street, will also be joining in on the excitement by once again hosting James Butler “Wild Bill” Hickok, impersonated by David C. Wood. Join him in the saloon Thursday and Friday, July 3rd and 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 5th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. as he shares his stories and the excitement of his life history. The admission fee for this event is $4.00 for adults and $1.00 for children 3 to 12 years of age. Children under the age of 3 and Ellis County Historical Society members will be admitted free. There are also several businesses taking part in the festivities by offering special deals throughout their stores. Redz Design Studio, located at 1605 Main Street, will be offering a promotion during the weekend where anyone who purchases $50 in Trucco Make-up will receive a free lip gloss. The Bildschon Haus and Bildschon Baby, located at 1100 Main Street and 1013 Main Street, will also be offering “Wild and Crazy Savings” so stop in and see what these businesses have in store! Don’t miss out on what is sure to be an exciting, fun-filled weekend in the Chestnut Street District.
