2009 Kansas Women's Leadership Conference
Calling all ladies! The Kansas Women’s Leadership Conference will be held in the Downtown Hays Chestnut Street District at the newly remodeled Fox Pavilion, on March 27, 2009. The goal of this conference is to address the issues and concepts needed for women of all ages to develop and maintain leadership skills.
The all-inclusive Kansas Women’s Leadership Conference is designed for women of all ages to learn about the social interactive process known as leadership. The main goal is to strengthen and encourage networking skills and opportunities for women. Moreover, the conference wants to promote the mentoring between and among women. “We want to provide a forum for discussion on issues, concepts and skills regarding leadership development for all Kansas women,” said Christie Brungardt, conference founder and FHSU instructor of Leadership Studies.
The keynote speaker is Barbara Kellerman, the James MacGregor Burns Lecturer in Public Leadership at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Kellerman has written many known books including Leadership: Multidisciplinary Perspectives; and The Political Presidency: Practice of Leadership. However, the most recent is Followership: How Followers are Creating Change and Changing Leaders. In addition, Leadership Excellence holds her at the ranking of 6th on the list of the 100 “best minds of leadership.”
Emcee for the conference is Jemelle Holopirek, anchor and reporter for local KAKE News. Other speakers include: Rose Arnold, Professor of Sociology/Social Work at FHSU; Joyce Hutter, Corporate Trainer; Karen Dreiling, Owner of The Furniture Look; Chandra Daffer, Director, Center for Student Involvement at FHSU and many more.
“We’re hoping to encourage and enhance the ability of the attendees to actively participate in leadership at all levels,” states Brungardt. With this thought, the 2009 Conference will include a new service project known as “Kansas Clothes Drive for Women.” Gently used clothing and accessories that are donated from participants will be distributed to women’s organizations across the state.
To avoid downtown traffic and parking congestion, area merchants are offering door prizes for conference participants that take advantage of the satellite parking options, which are located at the intersection of 13th & Oak Streets (grass parking lot), the Hays Aquatic Park parking lot located at the intersection of 4th & Main Streets and in the parking stalls located next to the railroad tracks on W. 10th Street. The City of Hays Convention & Visitors Bureau will be providing transportation from these satellite locations. The driver will provide you with a ticket and thus your chance to win! The merchants donating items include Bildschon Baby, Bildschon Haus, Dwayne’s Designs, Ellis County Historical Society Gift Shop, Emprise Bank, Simply Charmed and Rooftops Restaurant & Lounge.
