Spring Gallery Walk - Fri. April 24 & Sat. April 25
The Hays Arts Council presents the 40th Annual Smoky Hill Art Exhibition and the 2009 Spring Gallery Walk on Friday, April 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. With 33 locations on Friday and 22 on Saturday you are sure to discover many magnificent pieces of art.
The works displayed at the Hays Arts Center, 112 E. 11th Street, have been selected from the Hays Art’s Council’s annual state-wide, juried fine art competition. Jan Schall, curator of the modern and contemporary art collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum has selected this exhibitions original works including paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, sculptures and ceramics. All of the works have been completed by artists throughout the state of Kansas.
Brenda Meder, Executive Director of the Hays Arts Council, is quick to thank all the businesses involved in the Spring Gallery Walk as well as welcome the new ones. Regal Audio Video will be displaying Digital Media Exhibitions by Barbara Rutherford, Mary Ann Thompson, Jeremy Gable and Tom Ellison. Crystal Memories, a newly opened downtown establishment at 1008 Main, will be displaying Photography by Shane Knight and Laser Art by Cynthia Pfeifer. At 719 Main, Short Go will be displaying a wide variety of Western Art Exhibitions. The final new business on the schedule is Thirsty’s and they will be showing Photography by Dennis Fisher.
Meder wants this year’s Spring Gallery Walk, “To bring people into the wonderful downtown atmosphere and embrace the many different kinds of works displayed.” This year many locations are offering extended viewing times that are designated on the Hays Arts Council’s website at www.haysartscouncil.org. This site gives full listings of all works and their designated locations to be displayed. Meder, stated, “I think this year’s Spring Gallery Walk, which is the biggest yet, will be a delightful experience for all those that attend!”
