Bildschon Baby The Chestnut Street District continues to expand in historic Downtown Hays with another new business, Bildschon Baby, officially opening for business on April 4, 2008. Bildschon Baby is located at 1013 Main Street, the former location of Bildschon Haus. “When the Basgall building became available, it offered Bildschon Haus the opportunity to expand, but at the same time left another open space in downtown. Greatly wanting to avoid doing this we decided to leave our baby line and gifts at 1013 Main Street and expand upon it,” explained Michele Flax, owner of Bildschon Haus and Bildschon Baby. “We have sold a lot of baby gifts from the moment we opened Bildschon Haus and the community seems to have the need so we decided to give it a try.” At Bildschon Baby, customers can find a variety of merchandise suitable for children of all ages including clothing and shoes sizes 0-6x, youth furniture, baby and youth bedding to order, gifts, stationery and a lot of great accessories. Bildschon Baby will continue to expand their product line. To help celebrate the grand opening of Bildschon Baby, Michele teamed up with Tammy McClellan, owner of Simply Charmed to host a spring fashion show, which was held at the Fox Pavilion on April 5, 2008. “Tammy did a fashion show in the fall and when she said she was planning one for the spring it timed perfectly with our grand opening,” explained Michele. “It was a great way to get the word out and feature our new clothing line for the spring.” The theme for the event was “A Fashion Wonderland” and featured the “Queen of Hearts” as the MC. A brunch was also served with hot coffee and memosas. The servers for the event were all dressed up as characters from the story “Alice in Wonderland” featuring the characters Alice, the Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Chesire Cat and the tea-pot mouse. In addition, there was also a silent auction which showcased several items donated from local Hays merchants as well as a great raffle prize package donated from Salon Ten-0-Seven. All the proceeds from the event were donated to the Hays Community Assistance Center, which equaled to a donation of $1000. “Several downtown merchants partnered with the community assistance center during the holidays for the downtown dollars promotion and Tammy and I felt like it is important to remember the organization continuously through the year,” explained Michele. The event was a huge success, drawing over 100 women to the downtown area, many who also chose to shop and dine in the Chestnut Street District for the rest of the day. The next time you stroll downtown to the Chestnut Street District, venture into Bildschon Baby. The store is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
